Rotary and EAP Consult Brings Hope: 15 Young Survivors Celebrate Life

The Background

Fifteen (15) children who have successfully completed cancer treatment are now full of life again, thanks to the compassionate support of the Rotary Club of Accra Legon East and EAP Consult. The two organizations, through their annual initiative dubbed “Box of Joy,” continue to bring smiles and hope to young cancer fighters at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital.

Rotary and EAP Receives Praises

Speaking at this year’s celebration of the Box of Joy initiative, the Head of the Pediatric Oncology Unit, Dr. Nihad Salifu, revealed that fifteen children have recovered from cancer treatment, describing the support from Rotary and EAP Consult as a beacon of hope for many families.

“This particular event reflects the community spirit that we need to bring into the care of children affected by cancer. So a big thank you to the Rotary Club of Accra Lagoon east for your partnership and EAP consult” she highlighted.

According to Dr. Nihad, the two organizations have provided funds for treatment and for diagnostics to diagnose their children and to treat them.

“This year alone, we have been able to celebrate 15 children who have completed their treatment for cancer. And today they are here celebrating”- she revealed

About The Box of Joy Initiative

The Box of Joy is an annual program by the Rotary Club of Accra Legon East and EAP Consult that focuses on giving back to society by celebrating and supporting children battling cancer. This year’s edition saw the partners donating food and assorted items to the hospital to help ease the financial and emotional burden of the children and their families, especially during the festive season.

The celebration also featured an outdoor Christmas party filled with laughter, music, and games, where survivors and their parents enjoyed a day of fun with members of the Rotary Club and EAP Consult. The children expressed their appreciation for the love and care they continue to receive, sharing their joy through songs, dance, and smiles.

EAP consult Donates Cash to Support

To further support the hospital’s efforts, EAP Consult presented a cheque of GH₵20,000 to the Pediatric Oncology Centre, along with an additional GH₵10,000 to fund ongoing creative and care activities for the children.

Several volunteers and supporters who have contributed to the wellbeing of the young patients were also recognized for their dedication and compassion.

Point of View by Rotary Club President

In an interview with Raysreport, Rotarian Emmanuel Sessou, President of the Rotary Club of Accra Legon East, reaffirmed the club’s commitment to sustaining the Box of Joy initiative, emphasizing that giving hope to children and families is at the core of what Rotary stands for.

” The aim is to support kids who are living with cancer to battle their journey and to make it a bit easier for them. We have been here for all these years because of the continuous support and also the results we are seeing”, President Sessou said.

President Sessou added that, EAP consult Limited coming through to support cash and some goodies is to help these kids also have some good nutrition to help them in their recovery processes.

The Next Boy of Joy Initiative

According to Rotarian Emmanuel Sessou, President of the Rotary Club of Accra Legon East, next years edition of the “Box of Joy” initiative will be a bit bigger, a bit more expanded, so that kids who are battling this cancer can have better hope and also better chance of survival.

Conclusion

The day ended on a heartwarming note, as the children enjoyed food, drinks, and moments of laughter a true celebration of life, love, and the power of community.

Fifteen success stories and countless smiles later, the Box of Joy continues to prove that with compassion, teamwork, and generosity, even the toughest battles can be won.
