The Story Of NIB MD, Chief Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria
In an era where leadership is often associated with luxury and excess, the Managing Director of National Investment Bank PLC (NIB), Chief Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria, is setting a distinctive example centred on modesty, cost-saving, and operational efficiency at the state-owned bank.
The Leadership Style of Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria
Since assuming office earlier this year 2025, Dr. Zakaria has exhibited a different leadership style, one that prioritizes prudent financial management.
While some bank executives decided to acquire brand new vehicles to signify a new status which is typical in Ghana during every regime of new governance, the NIB MD took a different route.
Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria Recounts
Speaking during the inauguration of the newly inaugurated Professional and Management Staff Union of the bank, the MD recounted how he wrote to the Bank of Ghana, the regulatory body to indicate the limited financial stances of the bank and requested the use of government-approved executive vehicles.

“All my other colleagues have bought new cars but I have written to Bank of Ghana, we don’t have money. And bank of Ghana has approved to give us vehicles as executives for us to use that is significant. Because if you holding somebody money, and you are spending it the way you want do you think he will give you money back?”
The Need For Modesty
According to Chief Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria, there is the need to make a conscious effort to be modest especially in managing public office.
“So you must also show modest in terms of how you are managing the finances of those particular workers. That’s why, when the morning I will drive and park and when I am going, I use the 2016 Prado to go out to do market”
Chief Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria On An Enhance Customer Experience
Chief Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria called for an enhanced customer experience to change the banks narratives
“What we can do, colleagues do not look at the position that you are risk, you are in finance, and you are in retail. Let all of us be marketers. Let all of us be practice customer experiences and show that anybody we see around respect the person,”
The Need To Be Positive
He appealed to staff of the bank speak positively about NIB.
“More importantly, bud-mouthing. Let’s talk positive. Let’s be more positive towards NIB. But when you talk Oh, with NIB, with this, you know that confident levels come down, so I want to challenge you, let’s be more positive. And by the end of the year, year, the story of NIB, as the best-paying bank will be record”.
Conclusion
Currently as NIB continues its restructuring and repositioning efforts, Chief Dr. Zakaria’s commitment to modest leadership and cost discipline is proving to be a strong foundation for restoring trust, enhancing operational performance, and building a resilient, future-ready bank.
