The Story
The Managing Director of National Investment Bank PLC (NIB Bank), Chief Dr. Doli-Wura Zakaria, has reaffirmed the bank’s strong commitment to investing in its employees, describing human capital as the most valuable asset of any organisation.

Making the remarks
Speaking at the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the Professional and Management Staff Union of the bank, Dr. Zakaria emphasized that prioritising staff welfare, growth, and development is central to NIB’s strategy for achieving service excellence and long-term sustainability.
“The biggest asset in every organisation is the human being. I have by the grace of God, been able to run successful businesses for the last two decades. And if you want your business to succeed, do not joke with the human capital,” he said.
The Need For Transparency
According to him, one way they will support you is for you to be honest and transparent and when they see the balance sheet, they will be in a better position to be able to support you or otherwise.
Citing The NIB Bank Example
“So when I came in and the concern was about salary. I said to myself that, what are the figures? What is the expectation? So I just didn’t do it out of any other thing, but I did it based on the figures on the table.” he said.
Changing the Narrative At NIB Bank
He urged both management and staff to work hard to change the narrative of the bank. “ And I want to assure if you are able to prove me right or wrong, trust me by the end of June, first week in July, we will look at the figures again so if there’s a need for us to do something we do it,” he added.
The Continuous Development At NIB Bank
He noted that the bank would continue to implement policies that promote employee well-being, capacity building, and career advancement.
The event, which brought together staff members and union leaders, to celebrate the contributions of employees and chart a new path for enhanced collaboration between management and staff.
