The Nkwanta Clashes
The Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) is calling for calm in the renewed clashes in Nwanta in the Oti Region.
The organization whose mission has been at the forefront of promoting peace and human security condemned the clashes and calm for peace among the affected communities.
Seven (7) Persons Lost Live in Nkwanta Clashes
So far, seven persons have lost their lives in the clash, a situation sparking further unrest in the affected localities.

FOSDA Calls for Calm in Renewed Nkwanta
In a statement, signed by its Executive Director, Theodora W. Anti, FOSDA condemned the renewed violence while calling for immediate calm.
“We all parties involved to cease hostilities and commit to a peaceful dialogue process to resolve their differences.” The statement read
What FOSDA’s Message Entails
In the statement, FOSDA further appealed to the leaders, elders, and youth of Nkwanta to prioritize the well-being of their people by refraining from actions that could endanger lives, destroy property, and undermine the community’s development.
FOSDA Makes Recommendations
In its recommendation, FOSDA called on the Government of Ghana to adequately resource and empower the National and Regional Peace Councils to so they can proactively address these longstanding tensions.
The organization believes, such a move will help resolve the persistent chieftaincy and land disputes, many of which remain unresolved hence continues to fuel instability and violence in the region.
FOSDA further said in its statement that “A well-resourced Peace Council, working in close collaboration with civil society organizations, would be better positioned to mediate and prevent such outbreaks”.
FOSDA Commends Security Agencies
Meanwhile, the organization commended the security agencies for their swift intervention and the arrests made in connection with the clashes emphasizing the continued neutrality and professionalism of the security personnel is crucial in restoring peace and building community trust.
FOSDA in its concluding statement called on residents and indigenes of Nkwanta to exercise maximum restraint, stressing that preventing further loss of life, displacement, and economic disruption must remain a collective priority.

The latest clash in Nkwanta adds to concerns about deep-rooted conflicts in some parts of the country, with civil society groups calling for enhanced dialogue, stronger institutions, and collaborative efforts to foster lasting peace.
