Rotary’s Free Breast Cancer Screening
Hundreds of traders at the Madina Market in Accra have benefited from a free breast cancer screening exercise organized by the Rotary Club of Accra East.
Participating Rotary Clubs

The exercise is in collaboration with 16 sister Rotary clubs and 4 Rotaract clubs. The exercise brought essential healthcare services directly to the doorsteps of busy market women who often struggle to find time for hospital visits due to their demanding schedules.
Identifying The Challenge
Recognizing the challenge of time constraints among market women, the clubs deliberately chose to bring the initiative closer to them, right within the marketplace to ensure no woman was left behind in the fight against breast cancer.

The Comprehensive Free Health Screening
The comprehensive exercise featured expert presentations on breast cancer prevention and treatment, free clinical breast examinations, breast scanning, and consultations with healthcare professionals.
Point of View by President of the Rotary Club of Accra East

The president of the Rotary Club of Accra East, Rotarian Elorm Mary Addo said the initiative is in line with Rotary International’s key focus area of Disease Prevention and Treatment.
“Most times we find that the women at the market do not have enough time to go the facilities to get screened, so we have brought the health professionals here to screen and create more awareness about breast cancer”
The Call for Early Detection
Rotarian Elorm Mary Addo emphasized that breast cancer remains one of the leading health concerns among women, and such community-driven screenings are vital for saving lives.
“We would like to encourage every woman in this country to take advantage of all the free breast cancer screening that is ongoing their communities because early detection saves lives”
Rotary Club of Accra Westlands speaks on Partnership
For his part, the President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Westlands, Rotarian Agyabeng-Dankwah Dompreh said Accra Westlands is pleased to partner the initiative.
“Breast cancer as we know is one of the leading cancers claiming the lives of many and as part of this project, we are happy to create the awareness and screen our mothers. This is what we do as Rotary, to help our community and impact lives”.
The Expectation

According to organizers, the clubs are targeting to screen about 500 traders through the campaign, with the hope of making the exercise an annual event.
Beneficiaries who took part in the screening expressed profound appreciation to the Rotary Clubs for their thoughtfulness and commitment.
Rotary’s Commitment
The exercise reaffirmed Rotary’s mission of “Service Above Self,” as members and partners worked hand in hand to promote awareness, prevention, and timely intervention against breast cancer — empowering women to take charge of their health while continuing to build their livelihoods.
