The Story
Scores of elderly persons in Accra have benefited from a free comprehensive health screening exercise organized by the Rotary Club of Accra Premier International, in collaboration with the Ark Lifestyle Foundation, an elderly care and rejuvenation center.
Partners of the Free Health Checks
The initiative, supported by ALMA Medical Laboratory, was held under the theme “United Together for a Healthier Future” as part of activities marking the United Nations Day for the Elderly.
The Rationale
For many aged individuals in Ghana, accessing quality healthcare remains a major challenge, often due to financial constraints, limited mobility, and the lack of specialized health programs dedicated to their unique needs. Recognizing these challenges, the Ark Lifestyle Foundation launched this initiative to not only promote preventive healthcare among the elderly but also celebrate their contributions to society by ensuring they receive the care and attention they deserve.
The comprehensive Free Health Checks
The screening offered a comprehensive range of medical services, including vital signs checks (blood pressure, pulse, oxygen level, and temperature), blood sugar testing, hemoglobin (anemia) testing, hepatitis B screening, typhoid testing, and eye screening and testing. Medical experts were also on hand to provide consultations, offering education on dementia and the importance of seeking timely eye care, especially for age-related conditions.

Point of View of Chief Executive Officer of Ark Lifestyle Foundation
The Chief Executive Officer of Ark Lifestyle Foundation Mrs. Estherlynne Osei Bonsu said initiative forms part of the organization’s broader mission to celebrate and care for the elderly in society.
“Our elderly people as we have them in society are resourceful people. They are good mentors and they still can teach so we want to embrace healthy ageing where the elderly are always brought on board and should not be left behind because they make part of the society.
Beyond The Free Health Checks
According to Ark Lifestyle Foundation Chief Executive Officer, as people age, they require not just love and attention but also consistent medical monitoring to ensure a healthy and dignified life.

Aligning With Rotary’s Focus Areas
Rotarian Kailash Chaurasia noted that, the exercises fall under Rotary’s commitment to Disease Prevention and Treatment adding that “so we felt that this could be one of the whole segments for us to bring all the elderly people and take them through the health screening process”
ALMA Medical Laboratory Leads the Exercise
